Database Engineer Lead(Cloud Tech Hub)

Exp: 8+ years

The Database Engineer (RE) will be part of the Aptean Tech Hub Reliability Team, and will work directly with CloudOps Services, CloudOps Support, R&D, and product teams to design and implement SaaS based database solutions that help improve application performance and stability across the board.

• Work with all CloudOps stakeholders, that include Customer Support, R&D and Professional Services across Aptean to provide database solutions that help with the deployment of world class applications.
• Design, implement, and maintain robust database solutions using SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Cosmos DB, Azure SQL, Amazon RDS, and other database technologies.
• Deploy and maintain database solutions that meet organizational requirements/SLAs on performance, availability, scalability and data security.
• Perform database performance tuning, monitoring, and troubleshooting.
• Involved with database infrastructure capacity – create database upgrade and deployment pipelines related to application and tenant management.
• Participate in DR drills for all product lines – provide DR execution plans for database systems and participate in the execution DR plans.
• Develop tools and create SOPs to automate daily database operations and deployments – to include but not limited to managing database alerts, database backups, data restores and recoveries.
• Review existing database processes and help optimize these processes through automation.
• Review, manage and optimize existing database monitoring and alerting systems to ensure that all database systems meet required SLAs across the board.
• Collaborate with Platform Engineering teams on production changes and incident/case resolution and mitigation.
• Participate in database design, data access strategies and provide technical assistance to Platform Engineering teams as needed – to include bug fixes, production data manipulation, feature testing and database refreshes.
• Case resolution management - take full ownership of incidents/cases from initiation to closure and where necessary engage third parties to ensure that all cases are attended to and addressed in a timely manner.
• Provide core production database administration support – infrastructure monitoring, database availability, and database performance monitoring.
• Provide on-call services on a rotational basis during designated shift hours and over the weekend. This may include providing support above and beyond the designated shift hours if necessary.

• Experience with data engineering practices supporting a multi-source data ecosystem in SaaS based environments (preferably MS Azure or AWS).
• Experience with designing and implementing large scale database systems at enterprise level, this must include configuring and supporting redundant solutions such as clustering, replication, mirroring in cloud-based environments.
• Solid understanding of SQL Server Database Systems (Tunning) – experience in database performance tuning and an in-depth understanding of indexing strategies, query plans, and query optimizations.
• Solid understanding of SQL Server Database Systems (Deployment) – experience deploying SQL Server database systems in Azure or AWS. Must be familiar with the different types of deployment configurations e.g. PaaS, IaaS, RDS and Managed Instances.
• Proficiency in PostgreSQL, Cosmos DB, and Amazon RDS.
• Experience designing and deploying high availability database solutions e.g. clustering, AOAG, Failover groups and GRS configurations for SQL server.
• Good communication skills - ability to collaborate with back-end development as well as front line support teams to solve problems.
• Understanding of database analytics/BI, and reporting solutions e.g. SQL Server Analysis Services, Power BI, Data Lakes, DW, SQL Server Reporting Services.
• Familiarity with database security concepts in cloud-based environments – to include Data Encryption (TDE), SSL/TLS and Data Privacy.
• Familiarity with DevOps concepts and best practices.
• Familiarity with deploying database solutions using IaC approaches e.g. Terraform, Ansible, GIT, PowerShell, Azure Resource Manager templates.
• Ability to work independently and complete tasks on time.
• Highly motivated, self-driven, and must have a desire to learn and apply new technologies to existing systems.

Good to have:

• Experience with design and administration of data pipelines involving multiple data storage technologies (Relational DBs, NoSQL DBs, Data warehouses, Data Lakes, Event Streaming Platforms)
• Experience with PostgreSQL, My SQL and Oracle
• Experience with non-Windows based OS systems LINUX, AIX and HP UX
• Data visualization and analytic software tools such as Tableau and Power BI.
