Job Purpose:
Independently perform complex procedures, calculations, analysis, research, and report preparation to support performance measurement and portfolio management processes and tools and act as SME within Performance team. Ensure compliance with established regulatory and operational procedures.Informally oversee operational activities within team and provide oversight and guidance to colleagues, peers and juniors. Identify and resolve advanced problems and drive statistical and quantitative analysis functions. Lead/conduct special ad-hoc analyses and/or studies.
Support global investment initiatives through active participation in projects, development and implementation of new initiatives, process reviews and/or system enhancements. Serve as a mentor, technical trainer, and resource to junior team members.
Essential Function:
- Independently execute complex transactions and resolve investment total return complex problems. Informally oversee aspects of team functions including reporting, investment accounting reconciliations, on-boarding activity that includes new/terminating/strategy changes regarding accounts, data integration & monitoring, complex investment performance analysis, projects and training/informal oversight of junior staff. Demonstrate comprehensive understanding of investment workflow, portfolio management, index construction, performance principles, awareness of GIPS regulations, investment tools owned/deployed by the team, client's needs, how market factors and/or operational changes impact team and data owned, as well as the flow of data across the organization. Identify, resolve, and explain complex issues and data anomalies. Prepare complex performance and analytical reports and maintain controls in alignment with internal policies and client's needs. Act as escalation point and subject matter expert for performance related activities. Lead/participate in projects.
- Further strengthen relationships with internal and external personnel including senior operations staff, front office, IT staff, client reporting, to educate, provide direction, influence results and decisions, obtain information and resolve problems. Consult with business partners on both complex and new initiatives to meet dynamic needs of our clients and front office. Anticipate and provide solutions to complex business problems based on a comprehensive understanding of the investment portfolios, benchmarks, financial markets, security detail, and investment universe. Ensure accurate and timely distribution of performance, risk measures, for portfolio and benchmark, along with a detailed understanding of inputs, dependencies, and data flow. Provide support to client reporting area by responding to complex requests; related to investment performance inquires. Act as a strong technical resource to internal and external personnel.
- Serve as a mentor, technical trainer and resource to junior staff. Demonstrate expertise in the areas of technical functions, research of issues, problem solving, formulating recommendations, independent decision making and effective communication. Serve as a subject matter expert/contact and team resource for procedures.
- Maintain and expand upon comprehensive understanding of Principal Asset Management's products [specifically OCIO (Outsourced Chief Investment Officer) book of business], team procedures, client's needs, financial markets, portfolio and benchmark construction and theory, and more granular security and asset class data and sensitivities through self-initiated research, participation in available training programs and involvement in ongoing investment activities. With knowledge, proactively employ better, more efficient ways to produce investment data and results. Keep current on new industry initiatives and represent the company as a subject matter expert as needed.

Qualifications:
Technical Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree, or equivalent, in accounting, finance, economics or business required
- Relevant Experience (fitment to one of the roles below)
Senior Analyst - Investment Performance (5 - 8 years' experience into Investment Performance/Risk Performance/ Performance Measurement)
Lead Analyst - Investment Performance (8 - 11 years' experience into Investment Performance/Risk Performance/ Performance Measurement)- Good understanding of investment accounting inputs, investment performance analysis, awareness of Global Investment Performance Standards (GIPS), financial markets, investment strategies, security types, risk statistics required.
- Must have the ability to build and maintain strong working relationships, exercise flexibility when dealing with people and effectively communicate with internal and external contacts at all levels.
- Must have ability to work under pressure in a deadline driven, team-based environment and the ability to produce accurate and timely information independently
- Experience with Eagle preferred, SQL
- Desire for continued education on CIPM strongly preferred
