- $88,290 -$117,718+ 17% superannuation (*minimum $110,059 with PhD)
- Full-time (35 hours week), fixed term contract to 31 December 2026
- Based in Sydney, Australia

In partnership with the University of Adelaide the University of New South Wales & UNSW Canberra, 50+ Industry Partners and supported by the Australian Government, the $240 million dollar Defence Trailblazer for Concept to Sovereign Capability will support defence-focussed innovation, skill the workforce of the future and play a leading role in accelerating the delivery of sovereign capabilities for the nation's security and prosperity...at-speed and at-scale.
Reporting to Professor Salil Kanhere, you'll work closely with a team of distinguished experts from UNSW Sydney and an industry partner on a Defence Trailblazer project titled Resilience of Supply Chain Unstructured Data. The purpose of the project is to develop software to encrypt and control the many different data file formats circulating within the Defence supply chains.The outcome is an encryption software suite that can protect sensitive information across the entire Defence supply chain. This position will give you the opportunity to develop your research skills and output across contributing to the writing of scientific papers for international venues, participating in conferences and workshops and actively engaging with industry partners.

Who You Are
You have a PhD (or soon to be awarded) in computer science, especially in cyber security or related area and can demonstrate the following skills and experience:
- Expertise in cryptography and computer systems.
- Software development and low-level programming, a good knowledge of C and C++ preferred.
- Good understanding of operating system concepts, file system drivers and kernel architecture.
- Proven commitment to proactively keeping up to date with discipline knowledge and developments.
- Ability to conduct independent research with limited supervision.
- Track record of publications and conference presentations relative to opportunity.
- Ability to work in a team, collaborate across disciplines and build effective relationships.
- Strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to communicate and interact with a diverse range of stakeholders and students.
- An understanding of and commitment to UNSW's aims, objectives, and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
- Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
