Program Manager – Data Strategy and Governance
Role Overview:
The Program Manager – Data Governance will play a critical role in managing and executing data governance initiatives across the organization. This role focuses on ensuring data quality, compliance, and governance standards are met while working closely with cross-functional teams.The Data Program Manager will lead data management projects along with the Data Lead, coordinate with data stewards, and ensure alignment between business objectives and data governance policies.
Key Responsibilities:
Program Management & Strategy:
- Collaborate on planning development, and execution of the data governance initiatives. Work alongside stakeholders to define and implement data governance strategies, roadmaps, and projects.
- Oversee multiple data governance projects from inception to completion, ensuring milestones are met and deliverables align with business needs.
Data Governance Framework Implementation:
- Support the design and enforcement of the data governance framework, including guidelines. Ensure the implementation of data management processes that support data quality, integrity, consistency and security.
- Work closely with data owners and stewards to ensure data governance best practices are followed across the organization.
- Facilitate the definition of data standards (e.g., data dictionaries, taxonomies) and data lifecycle management policies.
Stakeholder Engagement & Collaboration:
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (e.g., IT, business units, data analytics, tech for ops, tech and tools etc.) to ensure alignment with governance objectives.
- Collaborate on change management efforts by promoting data governance awareness and culture throughout the organization.
- Partner with IT teams to ensure the appropriate technology infrastructure supports data governance goals.
Data Quality & Compliance:
- Report on metrics and KPIs for data quality and track performance across different data domains.
- Monitor data quality issues and implement corrective measures in coordination with data stewards and business teams.
- Ensure compliance with internal and external data governance policies, legal regulations, and industry standards (e.g., GDPR, CCPA, SOX). Facilitate regular audits of data quality and governance policies, addressing gaps and continuous improvement.
Risk Management & Issue Resolution:
- Identify and manage risks associated with data governance projects and data management practices. Coordinate issue resolution processes related to data quality, access and governance concerns. Lead resolutions in line with organizational priorities.
Reporting & Documentation:
- Provide regular updates and reports on data governance initiatives to senior management and the Data Governance Council.
- Maintain thorough documentation of data governance policies, procedures, and processes.
- Develop/manage dashboards to monitor data quality, governance performance, and compliance across departments.
Competencies:
Project Management: Demonstrated experience in managing multiple projects with competing deadlines.
Stakeholder Management: Ability to work with diverse stakeholders and effectively communicate data governance objectives to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Data Management: Understanding of data governance principles, including data quality, master data management, data exploration and integrations.Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with data governance tools and platforms and knowledge of databases, data lakes, and data warehouse environments.
