The Assistant Vice President (AVP) of eCommerce in Consumer-Packaged Goods (CPG) retail is a senior leadership role focused on driving revenue and profitability through effective online merchandising, assortment planning, and customer engagement strategies within the CPG retail sector.

This role demands a seasoned professional with a strong background in eCommerce, analytical acumen, and leadership skills to achieve revenue and growth targets specific to the CPG industry.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement eCommerce merchandising strategies aligned with company goals, market trends, and customer preferences, with a focus on CPG products.
  • Oversee the selection and sourcing of products for the online platform, ensuring they meet quality standards, brand image, and customer demands.
  • Analyze eCommerce sales data, market trends, and consumer behavior to refine the product assortment, including brand diversity, category mix, styles, and sizes.
  • Determine pricing strategies for the online platform that balance competitiveness with profitability, considering factors like cost, competition, and customer perception.
  • Lead efforts to create visually appealing online product displays, optimizing customer engagement and driving online sales, particularly for CPG products.
  • Collaborate with the digital marketing team to ensure cohesive online merchandising and marketing efforts for CPG products.
  • Manage and mentor a team of eCommerce professionals, providing guidance, setting performance goals, and fostering a collaborative work environment.
  • Conduct thorough market research, stay updated on industry trends, and monitor competitor activities to make informed eCommerce merchandising decisions within the CPG retail sector.
  • Gather and analyze customer feedback and behavior data to make data-driven decisions about product offerings for the online platform.
  • Monitor eCommerce inventory levels, ensuring appropriate stock levels and minimizing excess or obsolete inventory for CPG products.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with eCommerce vendors, negotiating terms, and ensuring timely and cost-effective procurement for the online platform.
  • Track and analyze eCommerce sales performance, margins, and other relevant financial metrics to optimize merchandising strategies and drive profitability online, with a focus on CPG products.
  • Ensure CPG products meet regulatory standards and quality requirements for eCommerce, collaborating with relevant departments to address any issues.
  • Provide regular reports and analysis on eCommerce merchandising performance, making recommendations for improvements and adjustments as needed, particularly within the CPG retail sector.

Qualifications we seek in you!

Minimum Qualifications / Skills
  • A bachelor&rsquos degree in business administration, Marketing, eCommerce, Retail Management, or a related field is required. Advanced degrees like an MBA will be preferred.
  • Relevant years of progressive experience in eCommerce, assortment planning, and retail management within the CPG industry, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Proven track record in developing and implementing effective eCommerce merchandising strategies that have positively impacted online sales, customer experience, and overall business performance for CPG products.
  • Extensive experience in eCommerce operations, including online merchandising, assortment planning, and customer engagement, particularly within the CPG retail sector.
Preferred Qualifications/ Skills
  • Ability to think strategically in developing and executing long-term eCommerce merchandising strategies aligned with the specific demands of the CPG retail industry.
  • Strong leadership skills for guiding and managing a team, setting clear performance goals, providing mentorship, and fostering a collaborative work environment in the context of eCommerce.
  • Proficiency in data analysis for interpreting eCommerce sales data, trend analysis, and customer behavior insights specific to the CPG retail sector.
  • Strong understanding of eCommerce operations, merchandising principles, and customer experience design, with a specific focus on CPG products.
  • Proficiency in eCommerce platforms and software used for online merchandising, product lifecycle management, and inventory optimization.
  • Experience with eCommerce analytics tools and software for in-depth data analysis, trend identification, and informed decision-making.
  • Familiarity with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle) used for managing eCommerce processes including procurement, inventory management, and financials.
  • Strong proficiency in Excel for data analysis and reporting, as well as proficiency in Word and PowerPoint for communication and presentations in the context of eCommerce.
  • Ability to leverage CRM platforms to understand online customer behavior, preferences, and feedback to inform assortment planning for the online platform.
