About The Security Engineer Role
As a Senior Security Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in securing complex systems and components across the organisation. You will lead and execute small to mid-sized security projects, influence our security strategies and standards, and ensure the protection of our digital assets.This role involves deep technical expertise in security architecture, design, and implementation, coupled with the ability to lead cross-functional teams and mentor junior engineers.
Responsibilities (not exhaustive)- System Security & Design:
- Secure entire systems or significant components, ensuring comprehensive protection.
- Lead and execute security projects, delivering complete solutions.
- Craft and implement security measures for complex, undefined problems.
- Design end-to-end security solutions, contributing to both low-level and high-level security architecture.
- Develop security platforms for subsystems or products and introduce new security frameworks and technologies.
- Technical Leadership & Influence:
- Serve as a technical lead for security in complex projects, influencing security strategies and standards.
- Represent the security needs of the department to business and engineering leadership.
- Lead cross-team efforts to address and resolve security challenges.
- Mentor and train junior engineers on best security practices, and provide security reviews on architecture, system integration, and scalability.
- Participate in hiring processes, including campus and experienced engineer interviews.
- Security Lifecycle Management:
- Manage the full security lifecycle, from design to implementation and maintenance.
- Make independent decisions on security technology choices and introduce new architectural components.
- Ensure the serviceability, recoverability, scalability, and availability of security systems.
- Security Analysis & Benchmarking:
- Analyse and benchmark security designs against industry standards.
- Drive continuous improvement in security practices and influence overall security design.
- Project Management & Execution:
- Lead security initiatives and projects, managing dependencies and delivering results on time.
- Provide insights into potential risks and develop strategies to mitigate them.
- Perform root cause analysis (RCA) on complex security issues to prevent recurrence.
The Ideal Candidate
Experience- 6+ years of experience in information security or cybersecurity roles, with a strong focus on security engineering and architecture.
- Proficiency in security tools and technologies, including firewalls, IDS/IPS, SIEM, DLP, VPNs, and encryption.
- Strong knowledge of network security, application security, cloud security, and security frameworks such as ISO 27001, NIST, and OWASP.
- Experience in leading security projects and influencing security strategies.
- Relevant certifications such as CISSP, CEH, CISM, or similar.
- Knowledge of programming or scripting languages like Python, Bash, or PowerShell.
- Experience with platform creation and evaluating new security frameworks and technologies.
- Familiarity with root cause analysis (RCA) and incident response strategies.
- Technical Expertise: Demonstrated ability to design, implement, and maintain complex security systems.
- Leadership: Capable of leading security initiatives across teams, representing security needs to leadership, and mentoring junior staff.
- Problem-Solving: Strong ability to troubleshoot unforeseen security problems and implement innovative solutions.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, capable of conveying complex security concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Project Management: Skilled in managing security projects, delivering results on time, and ensuring alignment with business goals.
- Autonomy: Ability to work independently, make informed decisions, and operate with broad autonomy.
