Exploring the role
The Payroll Specialist is responsible for managing the full payroll cycle, ensuring compliance with statutory regulations, and guaranteeing timely disbursement of salaries. This role requires in-depth knowledge of Indian payroll systems, taxation, and statutory compliance, along with proficiency in payroll software and attention to detail.
How Your Day Will Look Like/Job Responsibility- End-to-End Payroll Processing: Manage the complete payroll cycle, ensuring accuracy and compliance with statutory requirements.
- Statutory Compliance: Ensure compliance with Indian payroll regulations, including Provident Fund (PF), Employee State Insurance (ESI), Professional Tax (PT), Gratuity, Labour Welfare Fund (LWF), and Income Tax (TDS) deductions.
- Taxation and Filing: Handle tax computations, withholdings, and remittances for income tax (TDS). Ensure timely filing of returns and generate Form 16 and Form 24Q for employees.
- Employee Queries: Address and resolve employee queries related to payroll, taxation, benefits, and deductions promptly.
- Audit & Reconciliation: Conduct regular payroll audits to ensure accuracy and compliance, identifying discrepancies and rectifying them in a timely manner.
- Monthly & Year-End Reports: Prepare and deliver accurate payroll reports for management and statutory bodies, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Consulting & Advisory: Provide expert advice on payroll-related issues, statutory obligations, and changes in tax laws.
- 4- 8 years of experience in payroll processing and consulting in India, with expertise in Indian labor laws, taxation, and compliance.
- Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
- In-depth understanding of Indian payroll systems and statutory compliance (PF, ESI, PT, income tax, etc.).
- Experience working with payroll software like SAP, ADP, Zoho Payroll, or other Indian payroll solutions.
- Knowledge of Indian taxation, including TDS calculations, filings, and compliance with Indian Tax Department regulations.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail to ensure payroll accuracy and compliance.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with clients and employees.
- Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and integrity.
- Proficiency in using payroll automation tools and integrating them with accounting systems.
- Capability to adapt to changes in legislation and compliance requirements while working under tight deadlines.
- Problem-solving ability to tackle payroll discrepancies and compliance issues.
- Proactive approach in adapting to regulatory changes and improving payroll processes.
