What You'll Do:
Avalara is looking for a Tax & Compliance Automation Specialist to support our mission of simplifying tax compliance for businesses worldwide. You will use automation tools and tax technology solutions to enhance compliance processes, improve efficiency, and ensure accuracy in tax calculations and reporting.You will collaborate with teams, including tax professionals, software engineers, and customer success teams, to implement and improve Avalara’s tax automation solutions for clients. You will partner with the tax compliance SIGs to provide process and product automation solutions.
You will contribute to Avalara's tax and compliance automation strategies. This is an Individual contributor role where you will report to the Manager of Tax & Compliance.
What Your Responsibilities Will Be:
- Data Transformation Services of client data and special projects
- Fluent in our product setup and review of settings with customers
- Prep and file indirect tax returns and license/registrations (
- Understand and apply jurisdiction knowledge as part of the tax compliance services delivered.
- Engage with state and local jurisdictions to understand technology changes that
- Allow or affect seamless automation and integration with government systems.
- Guide prioritization and delivery of product and process enhancements
- that increase efficiency and reduce risk.
- QA/test product, form or filing automations (new and changes to existing) that impact filing.
- Engage to guide and deliver process automation.
- This includes developing technical skills to use AI and RPA tools.
What You'll Need to be Successful:
- Minimum of 8 years of related experience with a bachelor's degree, or equivalent
- Minimum 6 years of related experience with a master's degree, or equivalent
- General accounting, Finance, Compliance or Tax reporting within a corporate setting or within banking or financial services related industries.
- Implement accounting, financial management or tax automation systems
- Work for a State or local department of Revenue (DOR) with taxpayer registration and reporting responsibilities.
- Data management, developing databases, data mapping or validation rules & processes.
- Process automation using RPA (robotic process automation)
- Agile balance of technology (70%) and tax technical (30%)
- Deadline driven - we have immovable deadlines that are very time compressed.
- Implement new technologies across the spectrum of registration and reporting requirements and influence/consequence of non-compliance.
- Collaborative, team-oriented and able to build cross team relations.
- College education w/ preferred major in Finance, accounting, mathematics, economics,
or computer sciences.
